It was a winding road to jewellery making for Alexander Goretskiy, the Goretskiy brand founder. As a professional photographer, artist and gallerist, Alexander has brought many creative projects to life in Russia, Ukraine and LA.
One of his many jobs was jewellery sketching, and over time Alexander’s fascination with this industry kept growing. He suddenly felt the urge to not only paint but also create 3-dimensional objects. This started a new chapter of his creative pursuits, and he had to start from scratch, with very little prior experience.
New ideas called for additional practical and theoretical knowledge required to create new pieces. For many years, Alexander studied the literature and technologies, sought advice from reputable American jewellery experts, and immersed himself into the history of precious stones and metals, including their origins, classification and properties. Endless books, workshops and cooperating with diamond mining specialists, as well as hands-on experience in selling those, formed a unique, solid foundation upon which Goretskiy brought his ideas to life.
The artist continued his education in the Old World, guided by famous jewellers from Barcelona. He has learned many secrets about working with gold and silver, but the equipment and technologies were not advanced enough to bring Goretskiy’s ideas to life. On a quest for modern ways to create jewellery, Alexander started attending all large-scale exhibitions, including Vicenza, Hong Kong, Basel and Las Vegas.
Today, manufacturing of exquisite Goretskiy pieces involves a one of a kind mash up of ancient jewellery making traditions and the newest technological advancements, such as the latest software, modern electroforming kits, lasers, and latest techniques for micro-cutting, polishing and soldering. Goretskiy has hired a dedicated team of top specialists working hard to fine-tune and implement his bold ideas.
Alexander finds inspiration in practically everything: sports, music, cooking, love, politics, science – or life itself. He works by a simple rule: when an idea is born, he puts it on paper immediately, putting even the most urgent tasks aside. Everything goes to capture the initial concept without delays – pen and paper, wax, play dough or beach sand. Over the years, Goretskiy has accumulated thousands of trinkets representing the “breakthrough” moments and initial concepts – paper models, pencil sketches, wax sculptures, phone screenshots… These pieces are all just starting points for the creative process, which is always an unpredictable journey.
“You retrieve ideas from this treasure chamber – one after another. Some are brought to life, shining brightly. Others stay dormant for years until their time comes. Several are destined to be abandoned forever. But the most curious thing is that – very often, the result is completely different from the initial idea…”
Goretskiy often works long hours in his perfectly arranged workshop, immersing himself completely in the process to the point of complete exhaustion.
Over time, jewelry making took over Goretskiy’s life completely, becoming the main occupation rather than a hobby. By that time, several complete collections and countless stand-alone pieces were created. Once exclusively available to modern art experts and collectors, the Goretskiy brand has finally opened its doors to anyone who would like to own a bespoke creation like no other in the industry.
